Hope Restored: Fundraising Campaign Saves Malnourished Twins, Empowers Parents.

A remarkable story of hope and resilience has emerged in Ekiti State, where a fundraising campaign has saved the lives of two malnourished twin girls and empowered their parents to start a business.

This also followed a provision store set up for the parents of the babies, Mr Tolulope Quadri and his wife Nofisat with varieties of items including; diapers, semovita, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomatoes pastes, noddles, bags of beans, rice, salt, packets of milk, grinding machine and other items to take good care of the babies.

Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti, the paediatrician who treated the twins, Dr Oluwakemi Ojulowo, said one of the twins had already been gasping for breath when they were rushed into the emergency unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido Ekiti.

“”We have to ventilate the baby for four hours, then after achieving success, the parents of the twins were asked how to cope with the babies because they were low-income earners. At that point, it was discovered that they were planning to go back home and started feeding the twins with pap” the Pediatrician explained.

She, therefore, said a passionate gynaecologist from Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Doctor Omolola Ajayi, was contacted to raise funds and procure baby foods for them because some people are looking for children and they could not have them and here is somebody who has them but could not afford to feed them.

In a response, passionate Obstetrician and Gynecologist Doctor Omolola Ajayi, who speared headed the fundraising campaign, said friends and relatives were contacted because of this family and a certain amount of money was raised, and that was how the mother of the babies was advised to engage in the food business to take care of the children.

“Just to help humanity, I thought of empowering the parents. I expect the parents to be good servants by not eating up the seed and by recreating more, as well as making good use of the opportunity and nurturing it to grow.

Dr Ajayi, therefore, advised Nigerians to go for family planning after having enough babies and engage in productive ventures as the economy of the country is no longer smiling.

She advised Nigerians, regardless of their social class, on the need for family planning as this will help to further reduce the rate of maternal/infant mortality in the country.

Parents of the twins who had already given birth to a boy before the twins, Mr Tolulope Quadri, is a primary school teacher in a government school while his wife is working with a private business outfit.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, the Usi Ekiti-born parents appreciated the gesture and prayed to God to continue to bless the donors, promising not to misuse the opportunity.
