Former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Oyo State Governor, Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most brilliant and principled public servants.
Olunloyo, a renowned mathematician, engineer, and statesman, died just days before his 90th birthday.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Office in Abuja, Fayemi said the passing of the elder statesman marked the end of an era defined by integrity, intellect, and selfless service.
“Dr. Victor Olunloyo was an exceptional figure—mathematician, engineer, administrator, and statesman. He brought his remarkable intellect, discipline, and vision to every responsibility he carried,” Fayemi said.
He noted that although Olunloyo’s tenure as governor of Oyo State was brief, it was impactful and characterized by progressive policies and a deep commitment to good governance.
Fayemi described the late Olunloyo as a visionary leader and patriot whose contributions to the development of Western Nigeria and the country at large would remain indelible.
He also praised the former Oyo State governor for living a life of courage, excellence, and unwavering principles.
“Nigeria is poorer for his loss,” Fayemi said, adding that Olunloyo’s intellectual legacy and statesmanship would continue to inspire future generations.
He extended condolences to the Olunloyo family, the government and people of Oyo State, and all those touched by the late elder statesman’s life and legacy.
“May the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife rest in perfect peace. His was a life of purpose and impact. We are grateful for his contributions to our national journey,” he added.
