Ekiti Muslim Leaders Call for Unity, Prayers for Nigeria, Commend Oyebanji’s Religious Tolerance

The League of Imams and Alfas in Ekiti State has called on Muslims to strengthen religious unity, promote peaceful coexistence and intensify prayers for Nigeria’s peace, economic recovery and national development.

According to a statement issued by the League’s Secretary, Imam Olohunkemi Abdul Fattah, through its Media Officer I, Imam Yusuf T. Akeusola, the President-General of the League, Sheikh Jamiu Bello Kewulere, made the call during the organisation’s meeting hosted by Oye Local Government at the Central Mosque, Ire-Ekiti, on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Sheikh Kewulere urged Muslims to remain committed to religious tolerance, mutual understanding and responsible citizenship, stressing that peace and security were collective responsibilities requiring the support of all members of society.

He particularly commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what he described as his fair and inclusive treatment of Muslims and Christians in the state, urging religious leaders and their followers to continue supporting initiatives that promote harmony and peaceful coexistence.

The Islamic leader also called on Muslims to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, citing ongoing development efforts, particularly in road infrastructure and other sectors of the economy.

Acknowledging the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians, Sheikh Kewulere said the challenges were national concerns that required collective commitment rather than placing the responsibility on one individual.

He therefore urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country and complement such spiritual efforts with meaningful contributions towards national growth and development.

As part of the meeting, special prayers were offered for Governor Oyebanji, seeking Allah’s guidance, wisdom and continued success in the discharge of his responsibilities for second term.

The clerics also paid a courtesy visit to the Onire of Ire-Ekiti, Oba Victor Adeleke Bobade Okeoro II, at his palace, where prayers were offered for the monarch, the community and the state.

In his response, Oba Bobade expressed appreciation to the League for the visit, describing the gathering of prominent Islamic scholars as a blessing to Oye Local Government.

The traditional ruler observed that prayers offered by religious leaders were important to the spiritual wellbeing and development of communities.

He also commended the host Chief Imam of Ire-Ekiti, Sheikh Jamiu Subair, for facilitating the visit and hosting the delegation.

The visit to the Onire, underscored the importance of collaboration between religious and traditional institutions in promoting mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and community development.

The meeting reaffirmed the League’s commitment to strengthening unity among Muslims, fostering interfaith harmony and supporting efforts towards peace and development in Ekiti State and Nigeria.

The statement added that Ijero Local Government would host the League’s next meeting.
