Amid rising security concerns and the need for sustained interfaith cooperation in Nigeria, Islamic leaders in Ekiti State have renewed calls for peace, unity and religious tolerance while offering prayers for the nation and its leaders.
This position formed part of resolutions reached at the meeting of the Executive Council of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ekiti State, held in Ado-Ekiti, where top Islamic clerics converged to review the affairs of the League and chart a path forward.
The meeting was presided over by the President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas for the Southwest, Edo and Delta States, Fadheelat Sheikh Dr. Jamiu Keulere Bello, and was attended by Chief Imams and clerics who make up the executive body of the League from all the sixteen local government areas of the state.

In a statement issued after the meeting by the League’s Media Officer, Alhaji Yusuf Akeusola, the clerics reviewed the activities of the religious body over the past one year, acknowledging progress made in promoting unity within the Islamic community and strengthening peaceful coexistence with other faiths.
The League commended the Ekiti State Government for fostering religious harmony and mutual respect among adherents of different religions, describing the peaceful atmosphere in the state as worthy of emulation across the country.
The clerics also used the opportunity to felicitate with Christian faithful in Ekiti State and across Nigeria on the Yuletide season, wishing them peace, goodwill and a prosperous new year.

They further offered prayers for Nigeria, particularly on the challenge of insecurity, while also saying special prayers for the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and for the continued peace, stability and development of Ekiti State.
As part of its resolutions, the Executive Council set in motion modalities for the hosting of the next general meeting of the League, which is scheduled to be hosted by Ado Local Government Area.
