Fayemi Mourns Late Olubadan, Describes Monarch as Bridge-Builder and Intellectual

Former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has mourned the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing him as a visionary leader and a unifier.

In a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Dr Fayemi commiserated with the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Government, and the people of Ibadan over the monarch’s death.

Fayemi noted that although Oba Olakulehin’s reign was brief, it was marked by peace, unity, and a strong commitment to preserving Yoruba culture and values.

“The passing of His Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is not just the loss of a traditional ruler, but that of a statesman, an intellectual, and a bridge-builder who brought honour and foresight to the traditional institution,” he said.

He recalled that prior to ascending the throne, the late Olubadan had made significant contributions in the military, business, and politics, bringing a wealth of experience to his leadership of Ibadanland.

“Oba Olakulehin’s reign, though short, was impactful in substance. He was a progressive royal father who believed in using tradition to support good governance, social development, and the unity of Nigerians,” the former governor said.

The former Ekiti State Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the late monarch’s soul and urged the people of Ibadan to take solace in the enduring legacies and institutions he helped to strengthen.
