Is Profit More Important Than Public Health? NAFDAC DG Challenges Medicine Dealers

In a strong call to action, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Moji Adeyeye, has issued a stern warning to medicine dealers across the country.

Speaking during a one-day sensitisation campaign in Abuja on Monday, Prof. Adeyeye specifically urged members of the Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED) to stop purchasing and selling substandard drugs, highlighting the dangers they pose to public health.

Represented by the agency’s Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance, Fraden Bitrus, the NAFDAC DG stressed the urgent need to crack down on the flow of falsified and low-quality medical products in Nigerian markets.

“This is a serious issue. Sourcing quality products for our communities must be a top priority,” she declared.

She also reminded the dealers of their critical role in safeguarding community health, saying their work impacts lives directly, hence, it is vital to put the well-being of the people first before profit.

Prof. Adeyeye outlined essential steps for medicine dealers to avoid falling into the trap of counterfeit products, urging them to buy from trusted suppliers and ensure all products meet NAFDAC’s strict regulatory standards.

“Don’t risk the health of your communities by selling substandard drugs. Always verify that the products you sell comply with NAFDAC regulations,” she said.

With a strong message of unity, Adeyeye called on everyone to rally behind NAFDAC’s efforts to rid the markets of dangerous products.

“Together, we can ensure that only quality drugs make it to the shelves. This is a collective fight, and the health of our nation depends on it,” she concluded.
