Former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark.
In a statement issued by the head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described Pa Clark as a towering figure in Nigerian history, whose contributions to the nation’s growth were immeasurable.
“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a true statesman and a patriot whose life was dedicated to the service of our nation,” Fayemi stated.
Reflecting on Pa Clark’s decades-long service, Fayemi highlighted his pivotal roles as a former senator, minister, and a relentless advocate for justice and equity.
He noted that Clark’s tenure as Federal Commissioner for Information and Culture during the military era exemplified his commitment to national unity and his ability to navigate complex governance challenges with wisdom and integrity.
“Pa Clark was not just a leader; he was a fearless voice for justice, equity, and fairness. He championed the rights of marginalized communities, particularly in the Niger Delta, and played a crucial role in the fight for resource control and environmental justice. His unwavering commitment to these causes will continue to inspire generations to come,” Fayemi added.
The former governor also observed the poignant timing of Clark’s passing, which came just days after the death of his longtime ally and ideological companion, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
He noted that both statesmen were deeply committed to the principles of justice, equity, and true federalism in Nigeria, leaving behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
“On behalf of my family, I extend my deepest condolences to the Clark family, the people of the Niger Delta, and all Nigerians who mourn the loss of this great icon,” Fayemi concluded.
