Former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, and former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, have paid a glowing tribute to elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
In a statement dated May 10, 2026, Fayemi described Chief Fasoranti as a divine blessing to Nigeria and a moral compass for the Yoruba people, noting that attaining the age of 100 represents not only a personal milestone but also a significant moment in the nation’s democratic journey.
The former governor praised the centenarian’s lifetime of sacrifice, courage and unwavering commitment to good governance, saying Chief Fasoranti remained one of the few national figures whose convictions never changed in the face of political pressure or national uncertainty.
Fayemi recalled Fasoranti’s contributions across different political eras, including his involvement in the Action Group during the First Republic, the Unity Party of Nigeria during the Second Republic, as well as his service as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State under the late Adekunle Ajasin.
He also commended the Afenifere leader’s remarkable contributions to education, describing him as a teacher, administrator and mentor who helped shape generations of leaders. Fayemi noted that Fasoranti understood early in life that the future of any society depends largely on the quality of its education and the moral values of its citizens.
The former governor further highlighted Chief Fasoranti’s consistent advocacy for the restructuring of Nigeria and true federalism, describing his position as a sincere commitment to national stability, equity and inclusive development rather than mere political rhetoric.
Fayemi, on behalf of his wife, Bisi, and the entire family, congratulated the elder statesman on reaching the historic milestone, saying his life remains a powerful example of leadership built on sacrifice, integrity, consistency and fidelity to principle.
He added that Nigeria is celebrating a man whose contributions have strengthened the country’s democratic evolution and advanced the aspirations and collective voice of the Yoruba people.
