The President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas in the South-West, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Dr Mohd. Jamiu Kewulere Bello, has led a special prayer initiative for the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade Adegoroye, and other security agencies ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Speaking on the reason for the prayer, held at the office of the Commissioner of Police in Ado-Ekiti, Sheikh Kewulere-Bello explained that the clerics decided to organise the spiritual exercise after observing the relative peace currently being enjoyed in Ekiti State under the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
He said there were concerns that some unscrupulous elements might attempt to destabilise the state and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere ahead of the election.
The Islamic leader noted that the prayer team was specifically delegated to seek divine intervention for the Commissioner of Police and all security operatives in the state, stressing the need to ward off evil plans and strengthen the hands of security agencies in maintaining law and order.

He added that the prayers were also aimed at ensuring that the governorship election is conducted peacefully, without violence, bloodshed, or crisis, before, during, and after the exercise.
The prayer session was led by the League of Jumat Imams in Ado Local Government under the leadership of Imam Abdul Hakeem Afenifere, with over forty Imams in attendance.
Special prayers were offered at both the office of the Commissioner of Police and later at the command’s central mosque for peace, security, unity, and stability in Ekiti State.
Reacting, Commissioner of Police Michael Falade Adegoroye expressed appreciation to Sheikh Kewulere-Bello and the clerics for the gesture, describing the prayers as timely and encouraging.
He said he strongly believes in the power of prayer as a police officer, noting that there is nothing impossible for God to do.
The police commissioner urged religious leaders to continue praying for Ekiti State and Nigeria, especially at a time when security agencies are intensifying efforts against crimes such as kidnapping and other criminal activities.

He stressed that sustained prayers and public cooperation would further enhance the success of security operations across the state.
Mr Adegoroye also commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his administration’s support to security agencies through the provision of logistics and operational assistance.
He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and work closely with the police by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property in Ekiti State, assuring residents that the command would continue to ensure that criminals do not find the state conducive for their activities.

Top police officers present at the special prayer session included Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DC DOPS Tanimu Nyatse; DC A Lariski Mohammed; and the Police Imam, CSP Isiaka Abdul Hameed, among others.
