A Professor of Computer Science, Prof. Dipo Akomolafe, has urged registered professionals in the field to position themselves as global problem solvers through innovation and technological advancement.
Akomolafe gave the charge on Wednesday while delivering a lecture titled “Empowering Tech Frontiers: Innovating for a Digital Nigeria” at the maiden induction ceremony of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Computer Science graduates of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.
He described computing technology as the process of transforming human intellect into machines that enhance efficiency and productivity, noting that computer science fundamentally revolves around solving real-life problems through innovation.

The professor encouraged the graduates to continuously develop their skills in emerging areas such as Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning and Cybersecurity.
He noted that Nigeria’s digital ecosystem has witnessed significant growth, largely driven by a youthful population and increased internet penetration.
Akomolafe, therefore, challenged the inductees to embrace innovation that is practical, inclusive and sustainable.
According to him, “Innovation is not merely about invention, but about applying knowledge to solve real-world problems.

The Don posited that solutions must reflect local realities in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and education, while also reaching rural communities.
He added that computer science remains one of the most versatile professions, with applications across all aspects of human life.
While congratulating the graduates, Akomolafe urged them to be worthy ambassadors of EKSU and make meaningful contributions to society.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Joseph Ayodele, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oluwole Adebayo, described the induction ceremony as a significant milestone for the university, the Faculty of Physical Sciences and the graduating students.

He commended the staff of the Computer Science Department for their dedication to teaching, mentorship and character development.
Ayodele charged the graduates to uphold professionalism, integrity and innovation as they begin their careers.
“You are stepping into a profession that is central to global transformation. Let your knowledge be guided not only by technical expertise but also by strong ethical values,” he said.
In her remarks, the Acting Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Mary Yerokun, described the induction as the culmination of years of training and preparation for the students.
She explained that professional certification requires both academic training and formal induction, noting that a total of 71 graduates, six Master’s students, and three lecturers were inducted.
Yerokun emphasized that while certification confirms academic achievement, true professionalism is validated through induction and licensing.
Also speaking, the Registrar of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Mr. Adebayo Adegbiji, congratulated the inductees and urged them to develop specialized skills.

He stressed that graduation marks the beginning of a new phase, advising them to choose areas of specialization and remain adaptable in the ever-evolving technology landscape.
The highlight of the event was the administration of the oath of induction by the CPN Registrar.
An Award of Excellence for Best Graduating Student was presented to Glory Adeyemi, alongside other awards given to outstanding students by the Faculty.
