As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the Ekiti State governorship poll and the 2027 general elections, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Ekiti State has organised a special prayer, emphasising the need for religious tolerance and unity as critical ingredients for peaceful democratic processes and sustainable development.
Speaking during a special prayer session held at the Central Mosque in Ado-Ekiti, the President of the Council, Alhaji Hammed Afolabi Bakare, said the initiative was aimed at seeking divine guidance for leaders and fostering peace across the state and the nation.
Alhaji Bakare noted that the gathering of Islamic clerics and faithful was not only a spiritual exercise but also a response to growing concerns over the country’s socio-political climate as elections approach.

He stressed that without peace and unity, meaningful development would remain elusive.
“We are praying for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming elections in Ekiti and Nigeria at large. We also seek God’s guidance for our leaders so they can steer the affairs of the state and nation towards progress,” he said.
The cleric also offered prayers for Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, his cabinet members, and Muslim appointees in the administration, asking for wisdom and strength to deliver good governance.
He further expressed hope for continuity in leadership, praying for a successful political future for the governor.
In addition, prayers were said for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a call for divine direction in navigating the nation through its current challenges.

In a show of interfaith harmony, Alhaji Bakare congratulated Christians on the completion of Lent and the celebration of Easter, expressing optimism that the season would usher in peace and prosperity across the country.
He underscored the importance of religious tolerance, noting that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division.
According to him, national growth and stability can only thrive in an atmosphere free of conflict and mutual suspicion.

The prayer session drew prominent Islamic clerics from across Ekiti State, who collectively called for sustained spiritual engagement and responsible leadership as the country prepares for another electoral cycle.
