Ekiti Cargo Airport Receives NCAA Approval for Non-Scheduled Flights

… to become operational by 15th of December

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has approved the commencement of non-scheduled flight operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport EAICA in Ado-Ekiti.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, the approval, effective from December 15, 2024, to June 15, 2025, allows private jets and chartered flights to operate under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) during daylight hours.

In a letter dated December 11, 2024, addressed to Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, and signed by NCAA Acting Director General Capt. Chris Najomo, the agency stated that the six-month approval is aimed at enabling the validation of pending compliance findings and rectifying outstanding corrective action items.

The decision follows the Ekiti State Government’s application for an operational permit for the airport.

The state government has been proactive in preparing for this milestone by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Service Level Agreements with federal aviation agencies for the provision of essential services.

These include Air Traffic Services, Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Security, and Meteorological Services, ensuring operational readiness for the airport.

Governor Oyebanji in his reaction, expressed satisfaction with the NCAA’s decision, describing it as a validation of the state’s investment in the airport project.

He emphasized the potential of the facility to boost Ekiti State’s socioeconomic development by improving accessibility and enhancing the region’s agro-allied export capacity.

The governor had earlier assured stakeholders that the airport would become operational by the end of the year.
