Ex-Commissioner Debo Ajayi Urges Alignment of Infrastructure Projects with Ekiti’s Economic Realities

… Awaits Divine Guidance on 2026 Gubernatorial Bid

Former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Ekiti State and 2022 Young People’s Party (YPP) governorship candidate, Hon. Debo Ranti Ajayi, has expressed concerns regarding the current administration’s approach to the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport project.

Ajayi, who said he played a pivotal role in conceptualizing the airport during Governor Kayode Fayemi’s first term, emphasized that the project’s original vision was to integrate it with the state’s knowledge zone to attract investors and ensure economic viability.

In a recent interview, Ajayi explained the need for the state to focus on human capital development, youth employment, and reducing capital flight by engaging local workers.

He remarked, “While infrastructure projects like the airport are essential, they must align with our economic realities and broader development goals.”

He highlighted the importance of aligning such infrastructural projects with the state’s economic realities to ensure sustainable development and prosperity for Ekiti State.

Ajayi also addressed his political aspirations, stating that he is awaiting divine guidance regarding the 2026 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

He affirmed his readiness to serve the people, saying, “I am prepared to contribute to the progress of Ekiti State in any capacity, as directed by providence.”
