Ekiti Polytechnic Charts New Path with Expanded Programme Offerings

Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, has secured accreditation for 17 additional academic programmes, significantly broadening its educational scope and reinforcing its commitment to technical and agricultural education.

The institution’s Rector, Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe, announced the development during an exclusive interview with NEWS TARMAC in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.

He attributed the achievement to the support of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and educational investment.

Previously offering just four National Diploma (ND) programmes, the polytechnic will now run 23 courses in total—comprising nine at the ND level and 10 at the Higher National Diploma (HND) level.

The newly accredited programmes cut across four schools: Agricultural Technology, Business Studies, Applied Sciences, and Engineering.

Dr. Ajeigbe noted that while agriculture remains the institution’s core focus, the expansion introduces vital disciplines such as computer science, electrical engineering, and agribusiness, reflecting the polytechnic’s evolving academic mission.

He praised Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to the institution’s growth, citing increased financial support to meet the new minimum wage and ongoing infrastructure developments, including a state library nearing completion, connection to the national power grid, and perimeter fencing to boost campus security.“

As a government, their role has been pivotal to our development,” Dr. Ajeigbe said. “Our growth would not have been possible without this strategic support.”

The rector also highlighted strengthened ties with the state Ministry of Agriculture. Initiatives such as mechanized farming, cluster farming schemes, and local community partnerships aim to empower farmers and promote agribusiness.“We have the largest land allocation for farming among all state institutions,” he stated.

“Our goal is to produce graduates who are not just employable but capable of creating jobs, especially in the agricultural sector.”As the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) admissions process continues, Dr. Ajeyigbe assured prospective students and their families of the institution’s preparedness to offer quality education in a secure learning environment.

He emphasized enhanced security measures, including collaboration with local vigilante groups and Amotekun operatives.“Ekiti State Polytechnic is set to play a transformative role in Nigeria’s educational and agricultural landscape,” he declared.

“These new programmes will equip our graduates to drive innovation and contribute to the nation’s economic development.”

The expansion marks a significant milestone for the institution and underscores the Oyebanji administration’s broader commitment to using education and agriculture as drivers of Ekiti State’s progress.
