‎Ekiti Police Launch Manhunt After Deadly Church Attack‎

‎The Ekiti State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected gunmen who attacked a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers during a night vigil.
‎
‎In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed security operatives to track down the perpetrators.
‎
‎According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on April 28, 2026, when members of the church were holding an all-night prayer session on the outskirts of the community.
‎
‎About five armed men reportedly stormed the gathering, fatally shot the presiding pastor, and whisked away an unspecified number of worshippers.
‎
‎The police said a joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Agro Marshals, local vigilantes and hunters had commenced intensive bush-combing efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted victims and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
‎
‎While condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police assured residents that efforts were underway to restore normalcy and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
‎
‎He also called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information that could aid ongoing operations.
‎
‎The command further urged religious leaders and organisers of public gatherings, particularly late-night events, to comply with the state government’s directive requiring prior notification to the police to enable adequate security arrangements.
‎
‎Residents were equally advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency line: 08062335577.
