Former Governor of Ekiti State and immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and reflective as they celebrate Christmas and prepare to usher in the New Year.
In a Christmas message by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, the former Governor said the season represents hope, love, peace and sacrifice, the values he described as timeless and relevant to all Nigerians, regardless of background.
Acknowledging the economic and social challenges confronting the country, Dr Fayemi noted that Nigeria has, over the years, demonstrated resilience and the ability to overcome difficulties through unity and collective resolve.
While urging Nigerians not to ignore present realities, he cautioned against losing faith in the nation’s future, stressing that Christmas serves as a reminder that hope can be renewed even in times of uncertainty.
The former Ekiti State helsman also advised citizens to celebrate responsibly, taking into account the prevailing economic situation and the need to show compassion and solidarity with the less privileged in society.
Reflecting on the deeper meaning of the season, Dr Fayemi described Christmas as a celebration of love, humility, sacrifice and compassion, values he said align closely with Nigeria’s cultural and communal traditions.
According to him, Christmas goes beyond merrymaking, symbolising hope, spiritual renewal and the ultimate sacrifice of love, which Nigerians must reflect upon and apply in rebuilding the nation’s social fabric.
Dr Fayemi expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, noting that despite current difficulties, the country remains far from hopeless, adding that with collective effort and God’s grace, Nigeria will emerge stronger and more prosperous.
