The League of Jumat Imams in Ado-Ekiti, has thrown its weight behind Governor Biodun Oyebanji with prayers, citing what it described as unprecedented support for Muslim Community in Ekiti State, particularly before, during and after the Ramadan fast.
The clerics convened a post-Ramadan meeting on April 14 at the Olohunkemi Juma’at Mosque, Ori Apata, in the state capital, where they offered special prayers for the governor and reaffirmed their support for his administration.
The gathering, which drew over 50 Imams, focused on appreciating the state government’s gestures to the Muslim community; actions the clerics said have strengthened religious harmony and demonstrated inclusive governance.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Chairman of the League, Imam Abdul Hakeem Afenifere, said the prayer session was a deliberate move to reciprocate the governor’s goodwill, in line with Islamic teachings.
He explained that where material repayment is not possible, offering prayers for a benefactor remains a fundamental principle in Islam.
“We are here today to show appreciation through prayers. The Governor has shown us kindness, and it is only proper, as taught by Prophet Muhammad, to reciprocate such gestures either materially or spiritually,” he said.

Imam Afenifere noted that the current administration’s relationship with the Muslim community in Ado Ekiti stands out compared to previous governments, describing it as “respectful, supportive, and inclusive.”
Leading the prayer session, Chairman of the Mission Board, Imam Abdul Fattah Abdul Azeez, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the level of attention and recognition given to Muslim faithful by the Oyebanji administration is unprecedented.
He said the governor’s consistent engagement with religious leaders reflects humility and a willingness to seek spiritual guidance; qualities he described as essential for effective leadership.
The clerics also commended Governor Oyebanji’s loyalty and respect for the office of the President General of the League of Imams and Alfas in the South West, Edo and Delta, Fadheelat Sheikh Dr. Jamiu Kewulere Bello, describing it as a mark of a leader who values moral and spiritual counsel.
Beyond Ekiti State, the Imams extended prayers to President Bola Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom and strength to tackle Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
They also prayed for Muslim members of the state executive council, as well as aspirants preparing for the forthcoming governorship election, urging divine guidance and peaceful conduct throughout the political process.

Reaffirming their commitment, the League pledged continued support for Governor Oyebanji’s administration, stressing that good governance, religious tolerance, and people-oriented policies would always attract the backing of religious leaders.
The clerics further called on political actors and residents of the state to sustain peace and unity, especially as the state approaches another election cycle
