Fayemi Not Linked to Any Sexual Misconduct – Media Office Clarifies

The media office of former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed a news report by The Cable, which claimed that Senator Cyril Fasuyi linked Dr Fayemi to an allegation of sexual harassment during a Senate plenary session.

In a statement signed by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, the report was described as inaccurate and a misrepresentation of Senator Fasuyi’s actual comments.

According to the statement, Senator Fasuyi never made any reference to sexual misconduct but instead pointed out that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously made defamatory claims against Fayemi when he was Minister of Mines and Steel Development, specifically concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan—or anyone else—has never accused Dr. Fayemi of any form of sexual misconduct,” the statement read. “Dr. Fayemi has always upheld the highest standards of integrity in public service, and we strongly reject any attempt to associate his name with baseless and damaging allegations.”

The media office further clarified that Fayemi had no interest in being drawn into the ongoing controversy in the Senate, emphasizing that his past engagements with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan were strictly professional and based on policy differences.

The statement equally dismissed claims that Fayemi intended to submit a petition to the Senate over the matter, urging media outlets to uphold ethical journalism and verify information before publication.

“We urge the media to adhere to the highest standards of ethical journalism. Sensationalism and misleading narratives not only damage reputations but also erode public trust in the media,” the statement concluded.
