Fayemi Appeals for National Cohesion, Compassion During Easter Celebration

Former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has urged Nigerians to embrace compassion, unity and selflessness as the nation celebrates the Easter season.

In a goodwill message by his media office in Abuja, Dr Fayemi said Easter presents a timely opportunity for reflection and recommitment to the values of love, forgiveness and collective responsibility that are at the heart of the Christian faith.

“Easter is a reminder of the triumph of life over death, light over darkness, and hope over despair, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection three days later is the foundation of the Christian faith and a powerful lesson in selflessness, love, and forgiveness,” he said.

While extending warm Easter greetings to Nigerians, especially Christians, the former governor called on citizens to rise above divisions and reach out to one another in acts of kindness and support, stressing the importance of building a more just, peaceful and united country through shared efforts and empathy.

Acknowledging the current economic and political difficulties confronting the nation, Dr Fayemi said these trying times are a true test of the country’s resilience.

He, however,, expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, noting that the country is rich in human and natural resources.

“We are, no doubt, passing through challenging times. Economic hardship and political uncertainties continue to test our strength as a people, but I remain hopeful. Nigeria is blessed with innovative minds and vast resources, and I believe we will emerge stronger from these trials.” he said.

Fayemi also encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope but to lean into the spirit of Easter as a source of strength, urging them to continue supporting one another as the country navigates its path to renewal.
