The Ekiti State Government on Friday said it has embarked on a zero-tolerance campaign against flooding in every town and community in the state.
The Chairman of Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA), Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo made this known during his visit to the dredging site of Ofigba River in Ise-Ekiti
Oguntoyinbo said the objective of his visit with other board members of the agency was to inspect the work being carried out by the engineer assigned to curb flooding in the community.
The chairman said he was delighted with the work ethic of the site engineer because he started dredging on June 4, and has been able to dredge 1.8 kilometres of the river.
Oguntoyinbo said the state governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, directed that all waterways that could cause flooding be dredged by 3 kilometres because he was passionate about the welfare and safety of his people.

” I want to commend our amiable governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for embarking on a zero-tolerance campaign against flooding in every community and town in Ekiti.
Currently, we are in Ise-Ekiti to inspect the dredging of the Ofigba River in Ise-Ekiti to curb flooding in the community.
” I and other board members of EKSEPA are delighted with the level of job done by the site engineer because he is working with the directives of the 3 kilometres dredging of waterways.
“On this note, I would like to also commend the General Manager of EKSEPA, Mr Olukayode Adunmo, for supervising the project since it started on June 4 in Ise-Ekiti,” he said.
Similarly, the General Manager of EKSEPA, Mr Olukayode Adunmo, said the dredging of the waterways was essential to curb flooding.
Adunmo said most waterways have been blocked with refuse, thereby preventing the free flow of water from moving in the right direction.
” Dredging of Ofigba river in Ise-Ekiti in Ise/Orun Local Government Area was necessary because some of the waterways have been blocked with refuse.

” There was a need for us to remove every blockage and enhance the free flow of water to avert flooding during heavy rainfall”, he said.
The General Manager, however, commended Governor Oyebanji for taking proactive measures to curb flooding in Ekiti.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one of the residents and Indigenes of Ise-Ekiti, Chief Godwin Ojo, who spoke with journalists, thanked Governor Oyebanji for embarking on a zero-tolerance campaign against flooding in their community.
Ojo prayed that God would continually grant him more wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state to an enviable position.
