Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, the Chairman of Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA) has urged the Federal Government to introduce Option A4, known as Direct Primary, to conduct elections in Nigeria.
Oguntoyinbo, who was the former Chairman of Oye Local Government Area gave the advice during an interview with journalists on Monday in Oye-Ekiti.
He described the adoption of direct primary election of candidates for House of Representatives and Senate as commendable.
The EKSEPA boss cited example of the electoral process in 1933 during the era of the late Moshood Abiola that it was transparent, free and fair.
” I want to humbly advise the Federal government, the National Assembly members to introduce Option A4 into Nigeria electoral system.
” It is transparent because it is not possible for you to collect money for Mr A and Mr B and queue behind the two of them.
” This is an idea that government can adopt to improve our electoral process and procedures in Nigeria.
” Aside from transparency, it makes it easier for politicians to identify all their genuine followers especially where delegates will be required to vote, Option A4 is the best,” he said.
Oguntoyinbo, however commended the free and fair primary election conducted for aspirants contesting for Ekiti North Senatorial district in the community.
He added that Oye-Ekiti indigenes has proved that they are peaceful and law-abiding people
