Tinubu Names 39-Year-Old Tech Scholar, Segun Aina, as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, ushering in a new generation of leadership for the nation’s tertiary admissions agency.

Aina will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026, after completing two terms in office.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who described Aina as a seasoned academic and technology expert with extensive experience in digital infrastructure, institutional reforms and examination systems management.

At 39, Aina is set to become one of the youngest individuals to head the examination body.

The computer engineering professor currently teaches at Obafemi Awolowo University and is widely recognised for his contributions to technology-driven educational systems.

According to the Presidency, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent.

He also earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, alongside a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He further attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School as part of his leadership development.

The statement added that Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, where he first gained practical experience in admissions administration and data management; a background the Presidency believes positions him strongly to lead the agency into a more technology-driven era.
