In a statement issued on Monday by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi praised Soyinka’s remarkable contributions to literature, democracy, human rights and cultural advancement, noting that his lifelong service continues to inspire generations of Nigerians, Africans and people across the world.

The former governor said Soyinka had remained a consistent voice of conscience and a steadfast advocate for truth and justice, adding that his personal friendship and support over the years had been a source of immense intellectual and personal enrichment.

He described the literary icon as a mentor whose commitment to the defence of human dignity has continued to serve as a guiding light for the nation.

Fayemi also commended Soyinka’s outstanding literary achievements, including becoming the first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986, and urged younger generations to emulate his life of principle, courage and purposeful service.

He prayed for the elder statesman’s continued good health, strength and longevity, expressing confidence that Soyinka’s wisdom and voice would continue to enrich Nigeria’s public discourse.

“On behalf of my family and me, I wish Kongi a joyous 92nd birthday, in continued good health, robust vigour and abundant grace. Nigeria remains richer for his presence and his enduring legacy,” Fayemi said.
