Security Operatives Reportedly Arrest Four Over Eda-Oniyo Church Kidnap

…Former Amotekun Operative Allegedly Among Suspects

Security operatives have reportedly arrested four suspected indigenes of Eda-Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State over their alleged involvement in the April 28 kidnapping attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) No. 2, Oke Igbala, in the community.

The attack claimed the life of a pastor, while 16 worshippers were abducted by the gunmen.

A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that one of the suspects is a former member of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps.

According to the source, the ex-operative had earlier been suspended from the security outfit after authorities allegedly discovered his involvement in activities capable of bringing the corps into disrepute.

It was gathered that the four suspects were arrested on Thursday.

However, as of the time of filing this report, no security agency had officially confirmed the arrests or released details of the operation.

When contacted, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, Mr. Pius Alaba Dada, said he had only heard reports of the arrests circulating within the community and on social media but had not received any official briefing from security agencies.

“I have only heard the rumours, but no security agency has officially confirmed the arrests to me. Therefore, I cannot comment on the matter,” he said.

It will be recalled that 14 of the abducted worshippers regained their freedom on July 4 after spending more than two months in captivity.

However, an 82-year-old woman who was among the victims reportedly died in the kidnappers’ den, while a pastor was killed during the attack on the church.

Further official details are expected as investigations into the Eda-Oniyo church kidnapping continue.
