Federal Government Approves N77,000 Monthly Allowance for NYSC Corps Members

The Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000), effective from July 2024.

The approval was confirmed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

The adjustment aligns with the newly enacted National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which aims to enhance the welfare of Nigerian workers, including Corps members.

The increment follows an advocacy visit by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, to the Chairman of the Commission.

During the visit, the NYSC chief called for an improved welfare package for Corps members, emphasizing the need to support them adequately during their service year.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Brigadier General Ahmed expressed its appreciation to the Federal Government for the timely decision.

He commended the government, noting that the increase would bring significant relief to Corps members and serve as a morale booster.

The statement further highlighted that before the adjustment, Corps members were receiving a monthly allowance of Thirty-Three Thousand Naira (N33,000).

The new allowance is expected to enhance their commitment and dedication to national service.
