The Leader of the Akure South Local Government Legislative House, Rt. Hon. Falade Olalekan, has been suspended following a vote of no confidence by a majority of councilors.
Seven out of the eleven members of the legislative arm signed a letter to the Clerk of the House, citing allegations of incompetence and failure to represent the interests of fellow lawmakers as grounds for the decision.
The letter was endorsed by councilors Olayinka Adanri, Ajayi Babafemi, Adedeji Rufus, Oni Oluwatuyi, Abidakun Ayodeji, Akinsulu Samuel, and Ibitayo Toluwalase.According to the signatories, Hon. Falade had failed to provide effective leadership, losing the confidence of the majority and impeding the legislative progress of the council.
The councilors stated that the indefinite suspension is aimed at restoring accountability and better representation within the House.“This action was necessary to reposition the House for greater effectiveness and to ensure that the needs of our constituents are properly addressed,” the councilors said in the communiqué.
The development has triggered debate across the local government area, as such leadership suspensions are uncommon at the grassroots level.
