The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the safe return of the pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing their release as a source of relief for their families and the nation.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party commended the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and all individuals and organisations whose efforts contributed to the successful rescue of the victims.
The party noted that although details of the rescue operation were still sketchy, the safe return of the abductees was encouraging, stressing that no child or teacher should be exposed to the trauma of kidnapping while pursuing or providing education.
The PDP, however, urged the Federal Government to take more decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of such attacks, warning that the increasing threat to schools and communities requires sustained and proactive security interventions.
Reiterating the constitutional responsibility of government, the party stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary duty of the state and called for renewed efforts to guarantee the safety of Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren and education workers.
