As Muslims across Nigeria celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan, former Ekiti State Governor and ex-chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated the Muslim faithful, urging unity, compassion, and resilience in the face of national challenges.
In a statement by the head of Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Dr Fayemi emphasized the significance of Eid-el-Fitr as a time for reflection, gratitude, and a reaffirmation of the values of peace, tolerance, and compassion.
“This joyous occasion provides an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and commitment to the values of peace, tolerance, and compassion that Islam embodies,” he noted. “As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr amidst the current socio-economic and political challenges, let us draw inspiration from the spirit of Ramadan and work towards a better future for all Nigerians.”
Dr Fayemi highlighted the importance of fostering unity and understanding among Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences. He urged citizens to support one another and demonstrate empathy, particularly to those facing economic hardship.
“We should strive to cultivate empathy and understanding, to strengthen the bonds that bind us, and to work together to overcome the current challenges that confront us as a nation. Our diversity is our greatest strength, and our unity is our most powerful weapon against adversity.”
The former governor also called on Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and instead focus on collective efforts to restore economic stability and social cohesion.
“I therefore urge every Nigerian to support one another through these challenging times. Let us show compassion to those struggling, share what we have, and work collectively towards economic recovery and social stability.”
Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, Dr Fayemi reassured citizens that the current difficulties are temporary and encouraged them to remain hopeful and positive.
“I urge you to remain hopeful and positive, as these challenging times will not last. I pray that this Eid-el-Fitr brings with it blessings of peace, prosperity, and good health for all Nigerians, and may it serve as a reminder of our shared humanity and inspire us to work towards a more just, equitable, and prosperous nation for all.”
